Forecast Discussion:
A weak weather disturbance will track across northwest Mexico today into Friday. This feature, in addition to an increase in atmospheric humidity from the east, will lead to isolated to scattered afternoon thunderstorms over southeast (and east-central) AZ today and Thursday followed by a decline Friday. Rainfall, if any, will tend to spotty but gusty winds will be more likely. The approach of a larger weather system moving into the Western states over the weekend will lead to southwesterly breezy to windy conditions in the late afternoons and early evenings Friday through Sunday.
Daily average PM10 is expected to be in the low Moderate range today (aided by easterly breezes this morning and then some gusty winds from distant thunderstorms in the afternoon). Conditions improve the Good Thursday with less easterly breeziness. Of note, there will still be afternoon thunderstorm winds over Cochise County and in turn the potential for a short lived period of elevated readings. But they are not anticipated to be high enough to push the daily average out of the Good range. Additional improvement is expected Friday with the retreat of thunderstorm activity and this is expected to continue over the weekend.
