Volunteer for Wet-Dry Mapping

Revised On: Jun. 3rd, 2026 - 02:48 pm

Wet-Dry Mapping is a simple, hands-on way to help protect Arizona’s streams. Volunteers of all ages can participate. Start by watching a short video, download the data collection forms to your smartphone, and head to a local stream. Then walk a stream reach and use your phone to record where water is present.

Arizona has more than 100,000 miles of stream, but only 18 percent have assigned flow regimes. The data you collect helps ADEQ understand how streams flow and apply the right water quality standards to protect them.

ADEQ will use all data collected using either of the following methods:

Wet-Dry Mapping for Community Science Volunteer Groups

This streamlined method uses the QuickCapture and Survey123 mobile apps to digitally map wet and dry stream segments in the field, helping ADEQ collect credible, in-depth data to determine flow regimes and maintain Arizona's water quality standards.

Wet-Dry Mapping for Education and Classrooms

This approach is designed for educational or school groups to conduct hands-on environmental monitoring by collecting location and water data on paper forms and inputting the information digitally as a group.
