PFAS Rule

Revised On: Apr. 24th, 2026 - 10:00 am

The PFAS Rule protects communities by ensuring safe limits of these chemicals in drinking water. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a series of man-made synthetic compounds that persist in the environment for long periods of time, often called forever chemicals. All community water systems and non-transient, non-community water systems are subject to this rule.

What to Do If There's an Exceedance

PFAS Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) or Trigger Level
Beginning April 26, 2029, for systems on annual or triennial monitoring, an MCL exceedance will trigger quarterly monitoring at the individual Entry Point to the Distribution System (EPDS). If an MCL violation is assessed after calculating the Running Annual Average (RAA) of four quarters of sampling, a Tier 2 Public Notice is required. Additionally, systems monitoring triennially whose sample result equals or exceeds the trigger level must begin quarterly sampling for all regulated PFAS in the next quarter at the sampling point.

How to Submit Data

State law requires analytical results are submitted by uploading through the Compliance Monitoring Data Portal (CMDP) | Learn How >

Report results to ADEQ as soon as possible following the analysis, or within 10 days after the monitoring period.1

Please note that ADEQ no longer accepts many Drinking Water Analysis Reporting (DWAR) forms or faxes for submitting drinking water quality data.
