Permit(s) needed for Mining

Mining is the process or industry of obtaining coal or other minerals from a mine.

The following are required when running a mining business in Arizona:

You may also need all or some of the following permits:

  • If your industry produces crushed stone, you may need a Crushing and Screening GP | Learn More > 
  • If you have hot mix asphalt, you may need a Hot Mix Asphalt Plant GP | Learn More > 
  • If you have hazardous waste to dispose of, you may need an Application for a Hazardous Waste EPA ID Number | Learn More > 
  • If you collect/recycle lead acid batteries, you may need a Lead Acid Batteries Collection/Recycling Authorization | Learn More > 
  • If you have a Solid Waste Facility Plan, you may need a Solid Waste Facilities Operation Notification | Learn More > 
  • If you have a waste or TSD facility, you may need Solid Waste Facility Plan Approval | Learn More > 
  • If you generate special waste, you may need an Application for a Special Waste ID Number | Learn More > 
  • If you treat, store, or dispose of hazardous waste, you may need a Hazardous Waste TSD Facility Permit | Learn More > 
  • If you generate used oil, you may need a Used Oil Collection Centers Registration | Learn More > 
  • If you have an outdoor collection of waste tires, you may need a Waste Tire Collection Site Registration/Outdoor Used Tire Storage Site Registration | Learn More > 
  • 1.01 GP: Discharge From A Sand and Gravel Operation, Placer Mining Operation, or Other Similar Activity: Type 1 General Permit: No notification is required; however, best management practices (BMPs) must be followed.
  • 1.04 GP: Discharge from a Facility that Receives Water from a Well if Discharge is to the Same Aquifer: Type 1 General Permit: No notification is required; however, best management practices (BMPs) must be followed.
  • 1.05 GP: Discharge of Backwash or Condensate if less than 1000 Gallons Per Day: Type 1 General Permit: No notification is required; however, best management practices (BMPs) must be followed.
  • 1.06 GP: Burial of Mining Industry Off-road Motor Vehicle Waste Tires: Type 1 General Permit: No notification is required, however, best management practices (BMPs) must be followed.
  • 1.08 GP: Toilet or Privy: Type 1 General Permit: No notification is required; however, best management practices (BMPs) must be followed.
  • 1.12 GP: Discharge of Wastewater Resulting from Washing Concrete from Trucks, Pumps, and Ancillary Equipment: Type 1 General Permit: No notification is required, however, best management practices (BMPs) must be followed.
  • 2.01 GP: Drywells that Drain Areas with Hazardous Substances | Learn More >
